The weekend of 6-7th July was the Ladies League ‘Pink Weekend’. All players were asked to wear something pink to raise awareness and show support for those affected by of Breast Cancer. Raffles and special baking raised funds for the charity too.
The sun shone and our stall attracted lots of visitors. Everyone was a winner with our famous Mystery Bottles – it could have been wine, gin, beer or even shampoo, ketchup or (much appreciated) water! Visitors also had a chance to win £40 on the lucky 100 squares. And if that wasn’t enough we had scrumptious cake treats and glitter fashion by Macy to tempt the crowds.
Thank you to everyone that donated bottles, baked, created the banner and the info board and helped with setting up, taking down and manning the stall on the hottest day of the year. Not forgetting all the folks that visited us and helped us make over £300 for club funds – a massive THANK YOU!
Message from Nick, our Learning Disability co-ordinator:
Thanks for the support on allowing the LD tournament to go ahead today.
We had 9 competitors from Special Olympic Champions age 26 to an 8 and 12 year olds who have never played a tournament before.
The weather was lousy, but the tennis was good and nobody slipped and got hurt!
The final result was double winners with Sam and Jack both gaining 57 points in their matches.
Equally awesome is the fact that we raised £104 to help support people in Malawi. This could provide 5 efficient stoves saving people a huge amount of time otherwise spent collecting wood. It could provide 208 trees to provide fruit and shade. It could pay for 10 disabled children to eat at school for a term. It is very nearly a years salary in the rural communities in Malawi.
Thanks again to everyone for letting us use the courts / clubhouse and particularly Jane and Mike for coming to check all was ok.
Well Done Sam and Jack!
